People of all sexes have the right to explore femininity, masculinity—and the infinite variations between—without criticism or ridicule.
Well, 2014 is here, I’m glad to see 2013 fade away. In the last year most of my friends stopped writing to me because they got bored, but I still talk with them on the phone when I have the extra money. Last September my girlfriend left me - she is still there for me though, and she is doing a great job of taking care of Dharma Dog.
Last October after Nicole left me and I was not getting any letters from anyone or had any extra money for anything, I was really thinking about killing myself. No one was writing to me and I felt truly alone and forgotten. By the end of that month people started writing again. and I was getting contact with the outside world. I was throwing myself into my work - I was the pots and pans in the prison kitchen, and I was moving up the pay grade so I had a little more money to call people with. Well, I have a small but dedicated group of people who write, and a couple of them do things for me out there, like this amazing blog.
Things have gotten better in my life, I have about 15 months left in prison and if I can get this little thing in Cali cleared up, I might get out at the end of this year. I am now the shift leader of my crew in the kitchen, so I have just enough money to call some people, drink coffee, write letters and e-mail people.
I want my old friends to submit their favorite photos or stories of me or us, and I want new friends to read them and know that people can talk shit, but not everything you hear is true. I don’t know if this blog will help, but it sure can’t hurt.
And to the people who don’t like me for whatever reason, move on. Find someone else to bother, let me carry on with my life and get one of your own.
To the new friends who may have seen me on the prison pen pal sites - everyone makes mistakes in life, not everyone is working on becoming a better person. Well I am and I hope we can become friends.
Please use the ask box, all questions will be forwarded to me, as well as messages.
Hope to year from you soon.
Margie Hart: vintage 8x10 promotional photo for her appearance in the 1942 film Lure of the Islands.
Margie led an amazing life. At 21, she was one of the 3 dancers arrested for indecency in the April 1935 raid on Minsky’s in NYC. This arrest was also one of the factors that led to a citizen’s group calling for the ban of burlesque in the city of New York, and two years later, when the reformist Fiorello La Guardia was elected mayor, they got their wish. In the 1940/1950s Margie moved to Los Angeles and started to deal in real estate. She was apparently quit skilled at purchasing run-down retail properties, sprucing them up and flipping them for a tidy profit. Eventually, she would marry John Ferraro, who was a Los Angeles city councilman. Margie died 19 January 2000.
